Where does Sheabutter Come From?
Sheabutter comes from the nut of the Karite tree which grows exclusively in the dry Savanna belt of Central and West Africa. The tree grows very slowly taking 30 years or more to grow from seed to maturity. Only when the tree is mature does it begin bearing fruit (the sheanut).
Various techniques are used to remove the hard outer sell or husk from around the kernel. The inside of the nut or what is called the Kernel where actually Sheabutter comes from.
Why is there a variation in Sheabutter colour?
The Karite tree bares basically a produces an off white nut and a yellow nut. When the local woman of the villages gather the Sheanut they separate the white nut and yellow shea nut. The white nut produces (off-white coloured Sheabutter) and the yellow shea nut produces yellow coloured Sheabutter.
How can your 100% Sheabutter be pure and smell so good?
The FDA allows a product to retain it's 100% designation if it loses no more than 2% of it's natural form during processing. This allows us extract Sheabutter's naturally unpleasant smell and add .05% or 1/2 of one percent of a natural essential oil to enhance the experience of the use.
100% Shea Butter (2oz/4oz)
Is Shea Butter for the hair or body?
In its pure form, 100% Shea Butter can be used as a moisturizing and therapeutic agent for both the hair and skin. All other Shea Butter products are derivatives of 100% pure Shea Butter and made either for the hair or the skin. Thus, we add other ingredients to Shea Butter to specifically create products that enhances the effectiveness of using Shea Butter on the hair or body.
What is it good for?
100% Shea Butter is great for excessively dry or rough skin. It will cure less than severe cases of eczema and psoriasis. It will also help to fade away dark marks and blemishes from the skin. It will also improve elasticity and combat wrinkles. It helps eliminates stretch marks and is great when used during pregnancy. It is also excellent for moisturizing and protecting the scalp because there is no petrolatum in the product so it will not clog pores or block the hair shaft thus allowing the scalp to breathe and stimulate new growth.
It's hard!
Yes, Sheabutter in its natural form is a hard substance. All you need to do is take your finger or a nail, scoop a small piece of it out and rub in your hands or directly into the skin. Your body temperature will melt the Shea Butter and it will absorb into the skin in a few minutes leaving no greasy or oily residue.
Shea Moisture Lotion (8oz)
The lotion goes on greasy!
This is an oil-based lotion and not a water based lotion. Most water based lotions and moisturizers evaporate very quickly because they have a high concentration of water in them. Being oil based, your body temperature breaks down the Shea nut oil in the lotion and it then absorbs into the skin bonding with your own natural body oils. This has the effect of providing lasting, all day moisture and protection to the hands and body. Just watch, within a few minutes the lotion will absorb into your skin and then the only thing you will notice is how great your skin feels all day.
Because of the high concentration of Kariten, Phytosterols and Resinous Esters in Sheabutter, the lotion is also medicinal in the fact that it will help to cure minor rashes, cuts and burns.
Can I use this on my face?
Yes you can. You only need a tiny amount of the lotion, rub a little into the hands and apply to the face.
Body Wash
What's so good about your body wash?
Heat, hot water and using traditional soaps while in the bath or shower is where the body loses a lot of its moisture and becomes dry and ashy. Conversely, the heat and steam of a shower or bath while the pores are open is a great time to replenish the body's natural moisture that is being lost. There is no better moisturiser than Shea Butter so that's why our body wash is so fantastic.
